Preliminary task- script, storyboard and team work

Preliminary task- Script
Untitled

Both me and Tom produced the script as a team as we could debate on what would work better in the film. Throughout producing the script we changed alot of aspects, such as the ending. Originally TWIN 2 was just going to walk out but we changed it so that he would turn back to create a sense of danger and suspence, enhancing the impact left on the audience.

Preliminary task- Storyboard

I created the storyboards using the shot list and script as guidance. I tried to show the movement of the camera and people in the shots using arrows.

Preliminary task- Team Work

So far I think we are working well together, we are organised and are both doing similiar ammounts of work towards the task. We are behind of filming, but this is due to our actor Becky not being able to film on the arrange day which was Thursday  24th November. We have since rearanged to the film the rest on the 2nd December. We didn't want to comprimise on the actor as we thought she suited the part.

Preliminary Task- Our Idea

What We've been asked to do
For our preliminary task we have been asked to make a short film clip, no more than 1 minute long, that involves someone walking through a door, sitting down and having a conversation with someone. It can be any genre, but can only have actors that are not doing media at sawtry.

Deadlines
Pre-Production: 7th-18th November
Production Window: 19th-26th November
Post Production: 27th November-12th December
Presentation Day: 13th December

Who I'm with and my roles
For the task i am working with Tom Hughes. my roles in the team are Producer, Cameraman, Scriptwriter and Editor. However me and Tom are both Scriptwriting and Editing for the task.

What I hope to learn in the task
I hope to learn some new camera skills as i haven't used the camera for filming before. I also hope to develop my editiing skills and use new techniques that will improve our grade for the task. Finally, I would like to learn what it's like to be a producer, because I'm not really sure what they do at the moment.

Our Idea
Our main idea that we are going to use in our film is based on the Zodiac killer. The main plot is that the killer is arguing with his split personality, one good and one evil. The plan is that the audience think they're twins, this will provide a twist at the end. A girl passing by here's the arguament and comes into the room he's in to see whats going on. There she finds him on his own, raising the idea that he may be mental. He then goes to leave but is stopped by his split personality, the film will end with him being taken over by the evil side and claiming the girl as his next victim. This is good because the Zodiac kiler was never found so there is no definate idea of what he was like.

Media Role- Editor

A film or video editor is responsible for assembling raw material into a finished product suitable for broadcasting. The material they work with may consist of raw camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics and special effects. This is a key role in the post-production process and the editor's skill can determine the quality and delivery of the final product. The editor may be part of a team and they will usually work closely with the director to achieve the desired end result.
The majority of film/video editors are employed on a freelance basis, working on short-term contracts for post-production studios, television companies and corporate employers. Editors may work on a variety of productions including feature films, television programmes, music videos, corporate training videos or advertisements.

Typical work activities

  • receiving a brief, and maybe an outline of footage and/or a shot list, script, or screenplay;
  • assembling all raw footage, with camera shots either recorded or transferred onto video tape in preparation for inputting into the computer;
  • inputting uncut rushes and sound, and synchronising and storing them into files on the computer;
  • digitally cutting the files to determine the sequence of the film and determining what is usable;
  • creating a 'rough cut' of the programme/film and determining the exact cutting for the next and final stages;
  • re-ordering and tweaking the content to ensure the logical sequencing and smooth running of the film/video.

How 'The Chase' Went for me

For the chase i was with sam,chris and raja and i think we worked pretty well as a team. We decided what we were doing quickly so we could put more time into where and what kind of shots we would use. We all contributed to the main plot of the film, but i thought up the idea of having Pokemon cards in the bag and brought them in on the day we filmed. I thought that dressing me up as a chav would make it more obvious I was the villain. I also thought up some of the camera angles so contributed to the team and helped us get the C/B that we got.
I was one of the actor editors, but i edited most of the film as Sam was in the other class as to when i edited it. I think i acted well but had a smaller role than Sam, but I didn't mind because i like editing better. I think the editing wasn't to bad considering we only had 2 hours to edit it, and i had to cut out a lot to shorten the film even though it is still quite long.
